Passion Week Devotional Guide

As we head into Passion Week here is a helpful guide to the Scripture Passages and major events in the last week of Jesus’ ministry up to the Resurrection:

Sunday (Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1–11; Luke 19:28–44; John 12:12–19) 
  • The Triumphal Entry
  • Weeps over the city (Luke 19:41)
  • Stays in Bethany (Mark 11:11)
Monday (Matthew 21:12-22; Mark 11:12–19;  Luke 19:45–48; John 2:13-17)  
  • Leaves Bethany (Mark 11:12)
  • Curses the fig tree on the way into the city
  • Cleanses the temple
  • Returns to Bethany (Matthew 21:17)
Tuesday (Matthew 21:23–24:51; Mark 11:20–13:37; Luke 20:1–21:36; John 12:20–38) 
  • Finds fig tree withered
  • Teaches a series of parables
  • Teaches Olivet discourse on way back to Bethany
  • Mary (Lazarus’ sister) anoints Jesus
  • Judas makes plans to betray Jesus
Wednesday 
  • The Gospels are silent on what happened on this day before the Passover meal. Many believe Jesus was preparing spiritually for what was to come. I normally take this day to fast and pray asking God to restore the awe of the Gospel in my heart and soul.
Thursday (Matthew 26:17–75; Mark 14:12-52; Luke 22:7–53;  John 13:1–John 18:11) 
  • Preparations made for the Passover meal
  • Jesus has the Passover meal with the disciples and washes the disciples feet (John 13:1-20)
  • Jesus shares that He will be betrayed
  • Jesus shares that all his disciples will deny Him
  • The institution of the Lord’s Supper
  • Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane
  • Jesus betrayed by Judas and arrested (Either late Thursday night or early Friday morning)
Friday (Matthew 26:57–27:66; Mark 14: 53–15:1-47 : Luke 22:63-23:56; John 18:12–19:37)
(These events take place from very early Friday morning through the burial of Christ shortly after 3pm in the afternoon)
  • Trial before Annas (John 18:12-14, 19-23)
  • Trial before Caiaphas
  • Peter denies Jesus
  • Trial before the Sanhedrin
  • Judas commits suicide
  • Jesus before Pilate
  • Jesus before Herod (Luke 23:6-10)
  • Herod sends Jesus back to Pilate (Luke 23:11-12)
  • Jesus sentenced to death
  • Jesus mocked by soldiers (Fulfillment of Scripture)
  • Crucifixion begins at around 9 am and lasts for about six hours to around 3 pm.
  • Buried in a Borrowed Tomb
Saturday (Matthew 27:62–66) 
  • Jesus in the tomb
  • Guards placed at the tomb
Sunday (Matthew 28:1–15; Mark 16:1–14; Luke 24:1–43; John 20:1–24) 
  • He is Risen!!
