Today we complete the third week of our four week journey through Change Me: A Personal Revival Guide. It has already been a very helpful time with the Lord and I look forward to what God has in store in the days and even weeks ahead beyond our structured time through the guide. Part of today’s devotion was to spend time in prayer just simply thanking God. It made me think of the words of an old hymn:
When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.
Sometimes we can get discouraged and distracted by the trials and troubles in this life. When we take the time to reflect we recognize how good God truly has been to us. Today is a special day in the Kiker family. Twenty years ago today I met my first niece when she was born on a Tuesday morning. We had been up most of the night before waiting on her arrival. Later that day I performed the funeral service for a sweet saint of God. I then left and drove two hours to Wake Forest, NC and that evening proposed to Carol Ann Yarbrough. I am so grateful for my niece on her 20th birthday, I am overwhelmingly grateful Carol Ann said YES, and I am eternally grateful for the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ!
What are you thankful for today? Take time to count your many blessings!
