Change Me: Day 11 (Week 2, Day 4)

The reading assignment for today is Proverbs 1–9. I have made it a practice for the last thirty + years to read a chapter from the book of Proverbs each day. I can say after reading this book literally hundreds of times there are still everyday words of wisdom that speak to me and challenge me.

This is true for every part of the Word of God. We should have an eagerness to daily consume God’s word, listen to God’s Word, and obey God’s Word. May God increase our desire to hear from Him through His Word!

In reading Proverbs there are many common topics from the importance of wisdom, guarding our tongues, avoiding specific temptations. But one prominent theme is to walk in a humble, holy, fear of the Lord. The idea of the word “fear” in Proverbs conveys to “give honor”, to “have awe”. This fear should cause us to desire to walk in humble obedience.

Horn reminds us “the fear of the Lord begins (1:7) and ends (31:30) the book (of Proverbs)”

I love the quote Horn shares from Oswald Chambers as well, “The remarkable thing about fearing God is that, when you fear God, you fear nothing else; whereas, if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.”

May we walk in a healthy fear of God and may it be used of God to change us.

Please add your thoughts (Respectfully)
