I shared yesterday about walking in the spiritual disciplines of prayer, bible study, and family devotion. Today I want to encourage you in another area, sharing your faith. Many who have been saved and genuinely love Jesus have never attempted to share their faith with someone else. It is such an important task, and I believe the enemy puts fear in our hurts for this reason. You can share Jesus, all you need is your own testimony, share what Jesus has done for you through the Gospel. Make sure you get the main message across, John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life.” Jesus was crucified, buried, and resurrected to pay the price for the sins of every man, woman, boy, and girl so they could be saved!

Let me give you two very practical tips for increasing your consistency in personal evangelism.

• Saturate your evangelism efforts with prayer. Pray for your family, neighbors, and those you meet and get to know at your children’s activities and as you go through your day-to-day activities. God brings many people into our paths. Many of these He intends to receive a Gospel witness from us. Pray a simple prayer like this one I learned from Paige Patterson years ago: “Lord grant me the opportunity today to share the Gospel with someone, help me to recognize the opportunity, and give me the boldness to take it!”

• One simple tip I have used for nearly two decades now is to take a moment when I go out to eat and ask my server if there is any way I can pray for him/her. I say something like this: “What’s your name? Well, (name), we always like to ask the Lord to bless our food before we eat, and we always like to ask our server if there is any way we can pray for him/her…?” Just a simple offer, but you are going to be amazed at the responses you receive. Very rarely, it may result in a little awkward moment, but the vast majority of people (about 95 percent of the time, in my experience) will, at the very least, be grateful for the gesture. There have been countless times that we were greatly thanked and given very specific prayer requests. Many times, we have been able to share some or all of the Gospel. There have even been several times we have had the joyous opportunity to lead someone to the Lord.
